I have a denture. I was told by putting implants, my existing denture can be attached to the implants. How it is working?
Implant supported dentures usually work by placing 2-4 implants in each jaw, we can attach your existing denture which alleviates most of the existing movement patients are unhappy with. However, sometimes old dentures are not strong enough for such a forces and they may break.
I have heard about "tooth in a day". Does it really work?
The answer for many cases is no . Dental implant needs time and should be totally fixed to be integrated to the bone ( Like a broken arm). Immediate loading by putting crown, specially on the top of single implant, can causes micro-movement which reduces the chance of integration of the implant dramatically. tooth in a day usually is used for the concept of “All on Four” when four implants in different directions can hold a denture or bridge. Even in this concept, patients should follow a special soft diet carefully at least for two months.
In most cases the immediate crown on the top of single implant works just as a decoration and should not be functional.
Does implant works lifetime?
Researches show that implant can work for a long time. However we do not have data to support such a claim. The success rate of dental implant is %80 for 20 years period. It means 1 out of 5 implants can fail within 20 years. Dental implant needs special care and cleaning to last long.
How many appointments do I need?
Two appointments are necessary:
- The first appointment : Surgically placing the implant ( Fixture)+ healing cap
- The second appointment : Exposing the implant and placing the abutment and Crown on the top of the implant (4-6 months after the day of surgery).
Between these two appointments, your implant should be checked every one or two months to evaluate the healing of soft and hard tissue.

It consists of several parts:
The implant (Fixture), which is made of titanium or Zirconia is placed in the upper or lower jawbone.
The abutment can be made of titanium, gold or porcelain. It is attached to the implant with a screw. This part connects the implant to the crown.
The crown that is made of porcelain fused to a metal alloy (PFM), all-metal or all-porcelain crown. The crown is attached either to the abutment or directly to the implant. It can be screwed or cemented onto the abutment. If the crown is screwed to the abutment, the screw hole will be covered with restorative material such as tooth-colored filling material (composite).
